Hestia project (HESTIA'S BLUEPRINT) focuses on promoting the sustainability of the construction sector, recognizing the sector's significant contribution to global carbon emissions (approx. 8%). The main goal of the project is to reduce the carbon footprint in the production of building materials, focusing primarily on the optimization of concrete composition and production processes. The focus is on the circular economy and the use of local raw materials, through which we want to develop a sustainable value chain.
Two main objectives
Sustainable practices and technologies
- Identify and document best practices in sustainable building materials, in particular green concrete (Roman concrete/recycled concrete).
- Networking and exchange experiences with companies and associations working on sustainable construction and the circular economy.
- Exploring the possibilities of using Digital Twin and BIM technologies to create a dynamic connection between physical and digital building systems.
- Study visits of teachers to partner countries where best practices can be experienced directly in companies.
Development of training materials
- A comprehensive training module focusing on sustainable building materials and digital technologies will be developed to enhance the knowledge and skills of specialists.
- The training includes the use of BIM and Digital Twin technologies to assess the properties, procurement and environmental impact of materials and to manage construction sites through AI models.
- Training materials are tested in collaboration with students and teachers to ensure their applicability and effectiveness.
Expected results of the project
- Mapping best practices in the use of sustainable building materials and shaping them into teaching materials.
- Developing the knowledge and digital skills of teachers and specialists.
- Promoting green thinking among students.
- Professional dialogue and cooperation on the topic of optimizing construction processes.
The first meeting of the project in Paris, attended by project manager Ave Paaskivi and technology study leader Andres Meisterson, brought together construction experts from France, Italy, Finland and Portugal. Cooperation practices and goals were agreed upon. The Hestia project is a promising initiative that can hopefully bring real changes to make the construction sector more environmentally friendly.
This is a 3-year project funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ program, ending in November 2027.
