Four international green seminars planned with Nordplus support

Date created 29.05.2024

Under the Nordplus-funded project Young Sustainability Messengers, which received a positive funding decision, four seminars will be organized over the next two academic years to help vocational school students and teachers develop their green skills.

The partners of the Nordplus Junior project are vocational schools from Riga, Klaipeda, and Kajaani. Kuressaare Vocational School is the project coordinator.

Each school will organize a three-day seminar, with four students and two teachers from each partner school participating. The aim is to develop green skills as described in the European Union's GreenComp competence framework. Additionally, the goals include enhancing digital and communication skills, fostering civic engagement, and contributing to the development of a sustainable society.

The first seminar is planned for the fall at the Riga Style and Fashion Technical School. The seminar's theme will be green cities. Subsequent seminars will focus on the themes of forests and wilderness, the sea and coasts, and renewable energy and sustainable lifestyle.

Nordplus is an education program of the Nordic Council of Ministers, open to organizations from both the Nordic and Baltic countries.

By the February 1 deadline, a total of 166 funding applications were submitted to the Nordplus Junior subprogram by kindergartens, general education schools, and vocational schools, with 124 receiving positive decisions.
