Kuressaare Ametikool is a partner in the Jean Monnet program project EUClass Alliance, aimed at incorporating more topics related to the European Union and European values into vocational education.
At the kickoff meeting held in the second week of December in Verona, Italy, participants acknowledged that while EU policies affect numerous professional fields, the European Union often receives little attention, and the benefits created collectively—such as free movement of labor or affordable mobile data roaming when traveling abroad—are not widely recognized.
The project team from our school, consisting of Maiju Zuping, Heli Kakko, and Reet Truuväärt, will conduct interviews and a study during the first months of the year to determine the current state of teaching about the EU and democratic values.
In the spring, training sessions are planned, consisting of educational videos and two to three online meetings. At the beginning of September, a three-day training session will be held in Athens, involving vocational teachers from Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain.
Starting next academic year, learning activities with students will be introduced to test the materials created and raise awareness about the EU.
Jean Monnet is a subprogram of Erasmus+ focusing on European Union topics. In total, the European Commission coordinates over 1,400 Jean Monnet projects in approximately 100 countries worldwide.
